Nancy Derby began her art studies in Houston, TX, with painting classes in high school and drawing classes at the University of Houston. She worked on painting theater sets and costume design graphics from community theaters and her own dance school for over forty years until retiring in 2015. While studying with Leah Murphy and Kathleen Bolivar in Tucson, AZ, Nancy was encouraged to branch out professionally. Upon returning to her summer home in Colorado Springs, Nancy's watercolors have sold in several galleries including Modbo, Ormao Dance Academy, Febra's, and Sunny Vista Living Center, where her painting won a special award in their 2017 juried art show. Nancy currently enjoys studying with Lorraine Watry and painting portrait consignments of persons, flowers, dancers, and animals as she adds seascapes and landscapes to her paintings of many objects.
