John Hegstrom is a third generation native of Southern Colorado who has been painting since college. He has a surprising reason for beginning to paint. Due to a record rainfall in Northern Oklahoma that flooded his town, John was assigned to clean up the city block that had the art store on it. All the supplies were buried in mud, so he had some free supplies he knew he could use for his next semester's art classes. John's pieces sold well at student shows, so he has been painting ever since. He has painted very steadily in the last five years, selling his work in bulk in Colorado Springs, Taos, and Dallas. John primarily does landscape art with plein air work and loves to combine his visual skills and acumen as a surgical pathologist with observations from nature and images of his ranching experience. John lives here in Colorado Springs with his wife Jane.
